The EOS 7D is Canon’s latest DSLR, built for those seeking the convenience and affordability of the EOS 50D, inspired by the image quality and HD video potential of the EOS 5D Mark II, and eager for the high performance and durability of the EOS-1D series.
This is a totally new class of camera built from the ground-up to capitalize on advances in Canon’s AF system, EOS HD Video functionality, exposure performance, and other core technologies. Combined with the best existing features of the current EOS line, the EOS 7D goes beyond capturing amazing still images — it’s a complete media creation tool.
My first test shoot using the Canon Rebel 550D T2i, and first time trying to shoot video on an HDSLR. Shot some stuff over the weekend and early Monday morning in the Dallas area. Overall I learned a lot about the pros and cons of shooting video on an HDSLR. I think the footage will show the good and bad and what to look out for, so might be helpful to some.
Everything is shot 1920×1080 at 24fps. I only used the kit lens (canon 18-55mm) it came with to see what it could do. I put a $15 UV filter on the front to protect the lens.
The first half is mostly all handheld. It was a clear day so I put the top down on my convertible. I sped up, slowed down, and reversed some footage and was mostly testing to see how it does with processing motion and tried to cover a wide range of shots to get familiar with the T2i camera. I used a $15 mini targus tripod that when closed fit in my car’s cup holder to steady some of the shots. I used it mostly while driving in the rain. A little color correction was done in CS4.
