Can you use lenses from a Canon 35mm film camera on a digital canon rebel xti? Are they compatible?

Saturday Nov 28, 2009

I have a couple of lenses from my Canon 35mm camera and have now purchased a new digital Canon rebel xti. Can I use the lenses from my old 35mm on a digital rebel xti?

It depends on what "35mm film camera" you have. If you have an old Canon FD-mount camera (which means Canon’s manual focus cameras made before the 90s) you’ll need an adapter:

If you have an EOS 35mm camera with EF-mount lenses then they should mount and work exactly like they’re suppose to.

In any case, since the sensor of the XTi is smaller than a frame of film, there’s a 1.6x crop factor that you have to take into account. A 28-80mm lens would be equivalent to a 44.8-128mm lens on the XTi.

are canon rebel lenses comaptible with a canon EOS 40D digital camera?

Saturday Nov 28, 2009

i have a canon rebel 35 mm camera, and i need to know if my lenses with that are compatible with a canon EOS 40D digital camera

To clarify what David mentioned, he is talking about the DIGITAL Rebel cameras, not the 35mm one that you have.

Yes, the 40D will accept all Canon EOS EF and EF-S mount lenses.

If you get an EF-S lens, it will work on the 40D. However, the EF-S lenses will NOT work on your 35mm film camera.

Just bought a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, where can I buy accessories?

Saturday Nov 28, 2009

I’m looking for things like the eye extender, cleaning kit, etc. Not for lenses or flashes. Where can I shop online or in the US for accessories?
I bought it from Dell, they don’t seem to sell accessories. I’m looking for specific answers, not to be told to ask someone else.

Hi BG. As specific as I can be… two of the largest photo related businesses are Adorama and B&H Photo. Google them and you will find all the accessories you need for your XT… BTW: Nice camera!!! Thanks for reading.

Know of a camera like the canon rebel xt but with the ability to record videos?

Saturday Nov 28, 2009

Ok.
So I really like the canon rebel xt, but I also want to be able to record videos.
Do you know of any other cameras like the canon rebel xt but with the ability to record?

There are [only] two Digital SLRs at the moment that possess video recording capabilities: The Nikon D90, and Canon 5D Mark II.

EDIT [6:14pm PST]: I must point out that Vicseo’s post is a bit misleading. The DMC-FZ28 is NOT a dSLR. It’s a "superzoom", or point and shoot camera with a long zoom. What it lacks compared to the XT (or any other dSLR) is a big sensor, optical viewfinder, and ability to interchange lenses.

Canon Digital Rebel Digital SLR Best Price ?

Canon Digital Rebel Digital SLR

What your budget? I would recommend the Canon DSLR 1000D is enough for your budget about below $650. If not important budget ok, I would recommend the 5D MKII or 50D for limited professional about high cost $1800 or more

Is the Canon EOS Rebel XS Digital SLR Camera a good buy? or should I wait?

Saturday Nov 28, 2009

I want to buy a good DSLR camera. the Canon EOS Rebel XS Digital SLR Camera is the cheapest cannon I could find at $600. Is it a good buy? or should I wait to save up more money and buy a more expensive one?

I’m going to be taking a photography course soon and I hope I can get into professional photography afterwards. A DSLR isn’t necessary for the course so I can wait if I should.

If you want to stay with canon i would either get that one and buy more lenses or flashes. Or i would go up to canon rebel XSi

I agree if you dont care about brand i would go to nikon d40 great entry level i use it because its so light.

Testing 720P with manual focus on Canon Rebel 500D (T1i) with Tokina 28-70 F2.8 lens

Saturday Nov 28, 2009

Testing 720P with manual focus on Canon Rebel 500D (T1i) with Tokina 28-70 F2.8 fixed aperture lens. Video was recompressed to 10 Mbps H.264 MKV file from original 28 Mbps MOV file with HandBrake for practical uploading. The sound seems to be messed up during the upload process which might be an issue with MKV files. I’ll try uploading an MP4 file instead and see if that works a little better.

This is the first time I tried using manual focus since autofocus doesn’t really work on an SLR in video mode because the lenses aren’t really made for video shooting. The auto focus mechanism in the SLR EF lenses were designed for still photography, not for cinematography. In fact, you have to manually hit the auto focus lock button to get the camera to acquire focus and even then it takes about 2 seconds of noisy motors messing up your recording. I haven’t read the manual yet, but there does not appear to be any continuous auto focus mode and I think such a thing would even be practical due to the noise. Doing it manually (especially with the help of a large rubber grip on the Tokina lens) is very smooth, fast, and completely silent. In the video clip, you can see me focusing between foreground and background. I need some more practice acquiring focus manually but it’s definitely doable. This was a hand-held video without tripod on existing indoor window light from the sun.

The video capability of the Canon 500D ($800) is just stunning. Oh sure, I want a Canon 5D Mark II like everyone else, but it was a bit too much for the family budget. There’s no way a consumer camcorder can even come close to the low light capability and video quality of the 500D. The clear smooth videos make it ideal source material for YouTube 720P. Noisy video on the other hand are very difficult to compress properly with the 2.25 Mbps of average bandwidth YouTube gives you.
