What would be a good lens for my Canon Digital Rebel EOS to take sports pictures that are far away?

We see the Rebel advertised slightly different from one place to the next, some saying it is 400D or EOS or XTi (sorry, not familiar with the terminology yet) and some as a combination of those terms. Are there different models of the camera or is there just really one model? Thanks for any suggestions.
Rebel XTi(Sold in America) is the same version as the EOS 400D(which is sold in Europe).
It has 10.1 Mega Pixels and is the updated version of the Rebel XT (EOS 350D).
Its an Excellent Camera to learn with. But I wouldn't recommend the Kit Lens that comes with it. Better to buy the body, and get a better lens separately.
